Thomas O’Connell: Worcester’s Master Real Estate Developer and His Subdivisions, 1905-1938 – Thursday, May 18, 2017

An illustrated talk by Don Chamberlayne

5:30 PM, The Park View Room, 230 Park Avenue Worcester

In 1905 Boston area real estate developers, the brothers Cornelius and Thomas O’Connell, initiated the development of a residential subdivision that kicked off a highly successful Worcester enterprise spanning nearly a third of a century. Making Worcester his home, Thomas O’Connell left indelible marks on the community. O’Connell Real Estate created more than fifteen residential developments in the city.  This talk looks at each of them, focusing on some more than others, using maps, plans, and both aerial and ground level photos, and considering various ways in which O’Connell’s approach to neighborhood design evolved over time, keeping up with changing preferences.

Free for members of Preservation Worcester and $5.00 for non-members.  RSVP suggested.
