Westwood Hills: O’Connell Real Estate’s Prime Worcester Subdivision – Thursday, June 22, 2017

An illustrated talk by Stuart Sadick

5:30 pm, The Park View Room, 230 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA

O’Connell Real Estate Company transformed the 60 acre Salisbury Street estate of Austin P. Cristy, founder of the Worcester Telegram, as the elegant Westwood Hills subdivision.   Responsible over its lifetime in Worcester (1905 to 1937) for more than fifteen real estate developments in various Worcester neighborhoods, O’Connell promoted Westwood Hills as a highly desirable place to live – an exclusive and restricted neighborhood.   Still today, it remains one of the city’s premier addresses.   This talk looks at Cristy’s grand estate, the circumstances leading to its sale, the design and layout of the Westwood Hills subdivision, and includes stories from some of its earliest residents, who were raised in the neighborhood.

Free for members of Preservation Worcester and $5.00 for non-members.  RSVP suggested.
