How Cyanobacteria threaten our waterways and what local community scientists are doing about it.
The City of Worcester is lucky to have over twenty lakes and ponds in its boundaries. Being located in an urban environment means that these resources are accessible to many people, but they are also stressed by the developed landscape. Like many places, they sometimes experience blooms of blue-green algae, or cyanobacteria, which can be harmful to human health and pets. But the City of Worcester, along with a team of local volunteer community scientists, is working to monitor and develop methods to assess the public health threat of these organisms.
